Eye at Production – #1  Industry 5.0

At meeting one, Niclas von Schantz lectured on the employees of the future and a changing market, linked to the possible development of the industry. The lecture raised key insights about digital saturation, the behaviors of new generations and how the industry can benefit from technology instead of being replaced by it. Everything based on future needs, both of employees and customers. 

Some particularly interesting parts.

The industry collects data to make it work.
Of all the data that industry has collected globally since industrialization began in the 19th century, 99% has been collected in the last decade. This means that we are dealing with a completely new type of information that has never existed before, and it is growing exponentially. In many cases, data is collected without a clear strategy, rather than to increase efficiency, innovation or competitiveness. The pace is increasing, but the value of the data does not always keep up - The future will be about using the right data in the right way - moving from being an industry that accumulates to an industry and business that optimises.
New generations influence consumption and the labor market
To understand a generation, we must understand the environment in which it was formed. Generation Nexters (2004–2015) are entering working life and have clear values:
• They value authenticity and transparency.
• They want to take responsibility – both for society and for their work.
• They are influenced more by people and interests than by traditional status and hierarchy.
• They are drawn to digital detox and authentic, unedited formats in social media.
How the industry can adapt to digitization and new behaviours
• It is not the technology that decides - but how we use it. Solutions based on human needs such as simplicity and security.
• Future industry and data require authenticity and relevance.
• The industry must find ways to attract and engage the next generation, both as customers and employees.
• Industry 5.0 is not about fewer workers, but about changed roles and tasks.
• Technology does not remove the need for people – it changes and refines their work.
• Technology should be a co-player, not a substitute, the young take it for granted and will strengthen the human competence around it



    Summary of dialogue.
    - There is a great need to understand and adapt to how generational changes affect companies.
    - Within research, there is a lot of talk about Industry 5.0, but very rarely from this human generation angle. And never out in industry. There you solve the day-to-day.
    - They wanted direct tips and measures in the industry to face the future, it fits in well with the above.
    - Simplicity is an important part of the new generation. There are clear signs of this in many industries. Not least AI, which makes complex things simpler in all its niches.
    - Automation and AI become tools that enhance human competence rather than replace it.
    - Enshittification describes how platforms deteriorate over time by first benefiting the users, then the companies and finally only the platform's own profit, which leads to worse experiences for everyone except the owners - and then the users disappear.
    Conclusion.
    Industry 5.0 is not about a digital shift per se, but about putting people at the center and creating a more sustainable, adaptable and collaborative industry. The discussions during the meeting showed that the industry of the future is based on collaboration between technology, human competence and sustainable solutions. It is by combining these factors that we can create real value.
